Brüel & Kjær Head and Torso Simulator (HATS) - Type 4128‑D-002 (South Melbourne VIC)
Purpose
The developments in technology have changed the shape and size of telephone handsets and headsets. To ensure these latest handsets and headsets are tested to the appropriate standards according to the design principles used by the manufacturer, testing is performed in a Head and Torso Simulator (HATS) which incorporates Type 3.3 left and right artificial ears.
Specifications
The Head and Torso Simulator Type 4128-D-002 is a mannequin with built-in mouth simulator and calibrated ear simulators (according to IEC 60318.4/ITU‑T Rec. P.57 Type 3.3) that provide realistic reproduction of the acoustic properties of an average adult human head and torso. It is ideal for performing in-situ electro-acoustic tests on, for example, telephone handsets (including mobile and cordless), headsets, audio conference devices, microphones, headphones, hearing aids and hearing protectors.

Air Cooled Heat Exchanger Test Unit (Canning Vale WA)
Purpose
Designed in Europe this piece of equipment allows the best combination of exchanger construction and fan performance to be determined. Testing typically involves making a heat exchanger matrix into a test piece size, placing it in a test unit, putting heat into a fluid (typically oil, water or gas) and removing that heat by moving cooling air over its surface. Information accurately gathered includes flows, velocities, pressure losses, temperature changes, heat loads, humidity and relative humidity with this data being entered into design software for analysis and extrapolation.
Specifications
By fitting a sample exchanger to the test unit its cooling performance can be assessed under a variety of conditions. The inputs into the heat exchanger are varied and both these inputs and the heat rejection of the exchanger are measured; from this a performance value can be assigned to the test piece. Using this value the data can be extrapolated to determine the performance of larger exchangers based on the same design. The result of this testing is an accurate understanding the thermal capacity of each matrix under various conditions such as ambient air temperature, cooling air angle of attack, internal velocities, to name a few. This understanding enables design optimisation, and is followed by product development, manufacture and proof testing.

ISO-11092 Sweating Guarded Hotplate (Moorabbin VIC)
Purpose
This test unit is housed inside an environmental chamber in order to comply with testing parameters compliance with ISO-11092
Moisture Vapour Resistance Determination - Textiles - Physiological Effects - Measurement of Thermal and Water Vapour Resistance under Steady-State Conditions (Sweating Guarded-Hotplate Test.) Measures the breathability of textiles and laminates, etc. (especially apparel) and also the insulating performance of textiles and laminates, etc.
Specifications
The test (ISO-11092) is internationally recognised as definitive of performance characterisation. The computerised enhancements also enable extensive detail and data collection to be recorded and analysed and reported, well beyond any other Australasian-available device. The test unit is capable of assessment of 5 specimens (each in triplicate) per day. If a combination of Moisture Vapour Resistance and Thermal resistance assessments are required, a 24 hour interval between test types must be allowed in any test time schedule, to enable stabilisation of Relative Humidity and temperature requirements, which differ significantly for each test.

Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometer (Bulleen VIC)
Purpose
Inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) is a testing technique used to detect the presence of trace metals. It is a type of emission spectroscopy that uses the inductively coupled plasma to produce excited atoms and ions that emit electromagnetic radiation at wavelengths characteristic of a particular element. The intensity of this emission is indicative of the concentration of the element within the sample
Specifications
The 730-ES series has been specifically configured for maximum productivity, including productivity enhancing features such as a patented CCD detector, a fully automated switching valve system, a 4-channel pump and mass flow nebulizer gas control.
