Clean21: The Future of Manufacturing

Clean21 is the Australian Government's strategy for working with industry to cut emissions, consumption and costs, while improving jobs, global competitiveness and the way work is organised. It's all about helping businesses turn necessity into opportunity in the interest of a sustainable future for Australia.

CLEAN21 TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION NETWORK

Enterprise Connect's Clean21 Technology Innovation Network pools the specialised knowledge of Business Advisers, companies and researchers to help your business find ways to cut energy, water and material consumption, plan for change and adopt new technologies that will help reduce your business' environmental impact.

CLEAN21 MAKING BETTER MANAGERS PROGRAM

Enterprise Connect's Making Better Managers program is designed to raise the bar in terms of general management and leadership skills in Australian small to medium sized businesses. Improved management skill can be the key to seizing new opportunities in climate change adaptation and mitigation and creating new jobs in green manufacturing.

CLEAN21 INDUSTRIAL SCHOLARSHIPS

The ARC will administer a new scheme following the announced $23.4 million election commitment by the Gillard Government: the Researchers in Industry Training Awards which will embed 200 of our best research students in industry settings. The scheme which is part of the Government’s Clean21 initiative, will include a focus on emerging green industries and on projects that help existing industries reduce their environmental impact. Up to 200 awards will be offered, 100 each in 2012 and 2014, with stipends of $30,000 per year; to be supplemented by funding from institutions and the industry partner to attract the best researchers. The scheme has previously been referred to as Industry – PhDs; and Linkage Industry Research Training Awards. Further information about the Industrial Scholarships program is available at www.arc.gov.au

CLEAN MANUFACTURING PRIORITY FOR 15TH COOPERATIVE RESEARCH CENTRES SELECTION ROUND

On 9 December 2011, clean manufacturing, social innovation and sustainable regional communities were announced as priority areas for the 15th CRC program selection round. Applications for the 15th selection round can be lodged through the CRC program website from 13 February 2012. Applications close on 14 June 2012 and the outcome of the 15th selection round is expected to be announced in December 2012. Further information about the CRC Program is available at www.crc.gov.au.

CLEAN21 BUILT ENVIRONMENT SUPPLIER ADVOCATE

Mr John Gaskin was appointed as the Built Environment Supplier Advocate in February 2011 by the Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research. Mr Gaskin will work with Australian building product manufacturers and construction contractors to increase their competitiveness and access to opportunities through supply chain development, particularly in sustainable products and practices.

The Built Environment Supplier Advocate forms part of the broader Supplier Advocate Program. Supplier Advocates are focussed on working with firms, associations, unions and government agencies to formulate and execute industry development strategies to address key challenges and maximise opportunities for local industry. The industry development strategies are underpinned by practical activities aimed at helping Australian small and medium enterprises win a greater share of contestable procurement opportunities in the government (Federal, State and Territory) marketplace and in the supply chains of multinational companies.
