New South Wales State Centre
State Director Profile - John Murray
John has extensive management experience at the General Manager and Director levels, working with small to large manufacturing businesses in heavy industries, and the pharmaceuticals and food and beverage sectors.
His experience extends to strategic planning, supply chain development, industrial marketing, organisational change, and turnaround. John’s various consultancy roles have provided direction on productivity improvement, plant upgrade and business divestment.
John holds a Masters Degree in Science (MSc) and a Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA).
South Australia State Centre

State Director Profile - Amanda Wood
With hands-on experience in business spanning close to 20 years, Amanda was Managing Director for a medium sized, privately owned company servicing the SA manufacturing sector where she was responsible for general management, strategic planning, finance, quality management, HR and marketing as well as governance matters. Her experience has involved servicing a wide variety of manufacturing sectors covering products such as: builder’s hardware, electrical, electronics and radio frequency components; tap-ware; automotive components; energy and solar products; tooling; marine and many others.
Alongside her business endeavours Amanda has also contributed extensively to broader industry and business initiatives or organisations, serving on the AiGroup (SA Branch) board (formerly Engineering Employers Association A); SafeworkSA Advisory Committee; Structural Adjustment Fund for South Australia Taskforce. She was also inaugural chairperson of Southern Success Business Enterprise Centre and has mentored young business operators through the SA Young Entrepreneur Scheme as well as participating in many other business, industry or economic development working groups or initiatives.
Amanda has a MBA (Master of Business Administration), Graduate Certificate in Management (Manufacturing), Graduate Diploma in Management, FAICD (Fellow, Australian Institute of Company Directors) and CPMgr (Certified Practising Manager, Australian Institute of Management).
Queensland State Centre

State Director Profile - Melissa Anderson
Melissa has a background in the small to medium business sector in both China and Australia. Originally commencing with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Shanghai, China, Melissa went on to found and direct a successful IT and business consulting enterprise in Shanghai and co-found a construction and manufacturing company with operations across China.
Melissa has consulted within the business and corporate sector in Australia across various industries in a range of fields including; strategy, international trade and market development, marketing, product development and management systems. Melissa has also worked in an executive strategy role in the insurance and finance industry in Australia and participated in the leadership team of Australia’s second largest financial industry merger.
Melissa was most recently engaged as General Manager of a medium business in Australia in the medical/pharmaceutical industry with a focus on market development, innovation and international expansion.
Melissa holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Queensland, a graduate certificate in Advanced Mandarin (Chinese) from Fudan University, Shanghai, China and a number of post-graduate certificates in management and finance.
Victoria State Centre

State Director Profile - Rod Nelson
Rod Nelson has extensive senior experience in the public sector and the automotive, logistics and aviation industries.
As Customs and Materials Planning Manager at General Motors Holden, Rod was responsible for the company's compliance under the Australian Motor Vehicle Manufacturing Plan.
He subsequently became Managing Director and CEO of MSAS Cargo International in Australia and New Zealand and CEO of Air Niugini, the national airline of Papua New Guinea.
As Quality Director of the UK-listed company, Ocean Group, Rod led a customer-focused TQM initiative that sought improvement and growth for the Group's business units around the world. The initiative used a range of methodologies and analytical tools, similar to those employed in the Business Review and Tailored Advisory Service services of Enterprise Connect.
Rod qualified to assess companies against business excellence award criteria at the University of the West of England’s Quality Centre and has also trained to benchmark Australian businesses against world's best practice. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Melbourne) and an MBA (RMIT), and is a Foundation Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Western Australia State Centre
State Director Profile - Greg Redden
Greg has 15 years of experience in a wide variety of roles in South Australia, New South Wales and Victoria with a focus on bridging gaps between research organisations, government and industry in business strategy, partnership development, commercialisation and engineering.
Greg joins Enterprise Connect from his role as Executive Manager SME Engagement with the CSIRO and is a professional engineer by training with degrees from the University of Adelaide and an MBA from Melbourne Business School. He is also a member of Science Industry Australia's National Council, a member of the Institution of Engineers Australia, a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a member of the Australian Industrial Research Group.

Tasmania State Centre

State Director Profile - Keith Calvert
Keith Calvert has lived, studied and worked in Northern Tasmania for the past 14 years, gaining significant local business experience in both the private and public sectors. His private sector experience has been with the Tasmanian food manufacturing sector where he has worked with two nationally recognised brands in the areas of supply chain management, business development, new product development and marketing. The key functions within these roles involved the coordination of product supply to Coles, Woolworths, Aldi and independent supermarkets, as well as developing and enhancing access to export markets.
In the public arena, Keith spent three years working in partnership with the Tasmanian and Australian governments, together with the eight councils that form the region known as Northern Tasmania. The project aimed to gain more collaborative thinking on economic and community development, and culminated in the creation of a regional body whose charter was to promote, advocate and maximise funding opportunities for the Northern region.
Keith has been with Enterprise Connect since its inception playing a significant role in the establishment of the Tasmanian State Centre. Most recently, Keith held the position of Industry Development and Business Adviser involving extensive consultation and relationship building with all stakeholders, including industry and government representatives, and potential and existing clients.
Keith holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Aquaculture) (Hons) and will take an operational focus in Tasmania, overseeing the delivery of all aspects of Enterprise Connect for local clients. Keith is supported by two office staff and four experienced Business Advisers placed throughout the state, and looks forward to Tasmania making a positive contribution to the national network.

Resources Technology Innovation Centre - Mackay, QLD

Centre Director Profile - Peter van Iersel
Peter has extensive experience in the general management and commercial areas of the mining industry. Most recently he has been General Manager Sales & Marketing at HMG Westhill Pty Ltd before which he was Director and part-owner of Longwall Associates Australia Pty Ltd.
He has also held positions as Queensland Manager of Inbye Mining Service, Queensland Manager of Continental Conveyor, Queensland Operations Manager of Australian Longwall/Meco International/Dowty, and North-East Sales Manager of Joy Mining.
In a number of these positions Peter has been involved directly in negotiating international trade contracts and in particular has had significant success in securing a number of high-value contracts with Chinese corporations.
Peter's experience and expertise give him strong knowledge and insight into mining business issues and into the factors that make a business innovative, successful and competitive.
Innovative Regions Centre

Centre Director Profile - John Grace
For 6 and a half years prior to joining Enterprise Connect John was CEO of Regional Development Australia, Illawarra and the Illawarra Area Consultative Committee.
John championed the development of growth strategies for small and medium enterprise in the Illawarra region, particularly through the local development and use of 'Economic Gardening'.
John has acquired substantial skills in engaging regional business communities and building networks to help bring about positive change. During 2009 he designed, planned and implemented a major regional development consultation and planning project; the 'State of the Illawarra' initiative.
Throughout his career John has chosen to work in regional areas of NSW, developing knowledge about the needs of regional communities, and the techniques needed to create economic growth and sustainable jobs. Many of these years were spent managing employment and training services, as well as running his own small businesses. John has undertaken post graduate study in sustainable economic development.
Remote Enterprise Centre
Centre Director Profile - Brenda Elferink
Brenda has extensive executive experience working for the Northern Territory Government and Telstra in New South Wales and the Northern Territory. She has a background in business and regional development, employment and training, as well as communications and stakeholder management. Brenda also ran her own consultancy business, Strategic Gold Communication, for a number of years.
Brenda has a BA Journalism, a Grad Dip Education, a Grad Dip Leadership and Change Management, Diploma AICD Company Directors Course and Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training.
Clean Technology Innovation Centre - Newcastle, NSW

Centre Director Profile - Tristram Travers
Prior to joining Enterprise Connect Tristram Travers carried dual roles within Austrade being both State Manager, Tasmania and National Manager, Clean Energy and Environment, having previously been an Export Adviser in Western Australia.
Tristram managed a network of advisers across Australia focused on assisting Australian clean energy and environment businesses realise opportunities for outward trade and investment.
He came to Austrade from the private sector where he held General Management positions in large, export oriented, horticultural enterprises. He has twice worked as a consultant to insolvency managers to restructure insolvent companies and return them to trading entities. Originally from a production and engineering background he spent several years in the horticultural industry with roles in export market development, research and development, production management and delivering technical services.
Tristram attained an MBA from Curtin University after studying civil engineering.
Defence Industry Innovation Centre - Dandenong, VIC

Centre Director Profile - Andrew Garth
Andrew Garth is the Director of the Enterprise Connect - Defence Industry Innovation Centre. Andrew started his career at BAE Systems and later became a key part of the management team at GKN Aerospace (Australia). While at GKN Andrew was secretariat for the successful JSF Airframe Vehicle and Propulsion ICT, which later paved the way for formation of the Defence Materiel Organisation's Team Australia initiative. Andrew went on to manage large engineering projects through GKN for Airbus contracts and the JSF Program. Through the work on the JSF Program he became highly involved in the Australian Governments' US Defence Export Controls (ITAR) across the US and Australian industry to the benefit of Australian SME's.
During his career Andrew has spent significant time abroad working for and within many of the Defence and Aerospace prime contractors and as a result has extensive defence export experience. In Australia, Andrew is well known within Defence and industry, and for his efforts working with and assisting SME's he was awarded the AIDN Victoria Young Achiever Award.
Prior to his appointment as Director, Andrew had worked with the Defence Industry Innovation Centre as a Business Adviser and as such brings with him significant knowledge of the Defence Industry and first hand experience of the key issues and challenges facing Defence SME's, along with the benefits that the Enterprise Connect Defence Industry Innovation Centre can provide.
Creative Industries Innovation Centre - NSW
Centre Director Profile - Lisa Colley
Lisa Colley has extensive experience in government relations, policy and program development at a senior management level in the Arts and Cultural sectors. She has been Director of Exhibitions, Events and Projects at University of Technology Sydney (UTS) since 2007.
Prior to this she made her mark at the Australia Council for the Arts as the inaugural Manager of the New Media Arts Board and then Executive Director of Policy, Communication, driving key policy debates and submissions across a diverse range of issues affecting artists and arts organisations.
Lisa has a Master of Management from UTS and is a non Executive Director of the Arts and Health Foundation, a registered charity she founded in 2006.
